Do you think .NET will surpass J2EE? If yes, when will that be? Do you think .NET is better than J2EE? Do I have to study .NET in fear that Java's time is up?
That really depends on what you mean by "surpass". If you are referring to developer mindshare, .NET is already weighing very heavily. If you are referring to popularity, that remains to be seen. One thing is certain, William Gates III is hitching most of his horses to .NET and history has shown that when this happens, things move.
Do you need to study .NET in fear that Java's time is up? Absolutely not. To paraphrase William Gates III, Java is just another language. Whether or not this is really the case, depends on your point of view, but Java's popularity as a language is unprecedented and will not go away anytime soon. Should you study .NET in anticipation that it will be a major force in the industry? Absolutely. Should you continue to study Java because it already is a major force in the industry? Absolutely.
