Does J2EE or .NET have a brighter future in the U.S.?

What is the future for J2EE and .NET? Why do some companies prefer to use .NET instead of J2EE?
Both technologies offer great opportunities in the USA. J2EE currently enjoys a very broad range of server-side deployments, as does pre.NET Microsoft technologies. However, .NET is quickly becoming quite ubiquitous itself. The future seems to point to a mixture of both technologies with many years of opportunities in which to look forward.
