How do XML Schema and DTDs differ?

XML Schema and DTD's are both grammar languages for describing the structure of families of XML documents. They are more similar than different however. DTDs focus on short, readable grammars with loose control over textual content. XML Schema on the other hand is more verbose (it is XML based) and provides fine control over textual content.
