How is .NET different from Win2k on the server side?

From a server infrastructure standpoint, how is .NET different from Win2k? I still need active directory, etc.--correct? What are the changes on the server side?
The only major change is the installation of the .NET Framework on the server. Of course, your server needs to meet the minimum requirements to run .NET. You can still use Active Directory, etc.
