Implementing Web services

In our business scenario, we have a service which can be requested in both a synchronous and asynchronous way. Should I implement two different Web services for this or can I implement a Web service that can be called both ways?
You should implement the service once, leaving the protocol and invocation mechanism to be implemented as needed. If you are using Java or C++ as your programming language, look at the Axis framework for an example of this.
