These components will deploy in both a public cloud and the data center, but they require you to maintain strict control over API communication and implementation processes. Hybrid cloud is an architecture geared towards combining on-premise resources with cloud-based application hosting. The idea is to keep valuable resources stable while leveraging the flexibility of the cloud.

APIs are communication protocols (or interfaces) that facilitate messaging between apps and components (sort of like the glue of applications). The role they would play in hybrid cloud is managing communication between cloud and on-premise resources.
