Actuate Corp. has added to the recent flurry of consolidation in the business intelligence market. On Tuesday, the South San Francisco, Calif.-based BI vendor acquired Nimble Technology Inc., a maker of XML-based integration software.
Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Actuate said it will incorporate Seattle-based Nimble's data-integration software -- including its flagship Nimble Integration Suite -- into the Actuate Information Application Platform, which includes server software, a development environment and related business intelligence tools. Those tools include business performance management (BPM) dashboards, business analytics and reporting applications.
Nimble Technology, which has about 30 employees, is a privately held company that grew out of a research project at the University of Washington. A spokesman said Actuate will keep an engineering team in Seattle that will employ about a dozen members of the Nimble engineering staff.
Actuate has 511 employees worldwide. The publicly traded company had $109.2 million in revenue in fiscal 2002.
Nimble's enterprise information integration (EII) technology uses XQuery -- an XML-based method of querying databases -- to help developers build Web services, business intelligence applications and corporate portals. Actuate said Nimble's technology will allow its business intelligence applications to more easily integrate with other XML-enabled systems.
