Sun Microsystems, Inc. recently made available the Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8, the first commercially available version of the J2EE 1.4 specification.
J2EE 1.4 includes support for the Web Services Integration Basic Profile.
Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8 also supports the new JavaServer Faces 1.0 APIs for building GUIs for J2EE technology-based applications. Sun said it is designed to improve developer productivity. It includes tools to help rapid deployment of applications.
It is the default container for the NetBeans open source IDE and other Sun development tools like Java Studio Standard, Java Studio Enterprise and the upcoming Java Studio Creator.
Sun also announced an update to the J2EE 1.4 Software Developer Kit (SDK).
