Microsoft releases new Web services toolkits for SharePoint

Microsoft released new toolkits for its SharePoint products that enable interoperability between ERP applications and the Web Services for Remote Portlets specification.

Microsoft today released new toolkits for its SharePoint products and services that enable interoperability of enterprise applications via Web services standards.

The release of two Web Part toolkits and a Web services toolkit gives enterprises using SAP and other ERP suites the ability to integrate those applications with Web sites built with Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and Windows SharePoint Services.

SharePoint enables collaboration between partners and customers by enabling the creation and management of collaborative Web sites, Microsoft said.

Microsoft's WSRP Web Part Toolkit is based on the Web Services for Remote Portlets specification and enables applications developers to built portlets that interact with portals, regardless of the business system underneath.

The WSRP Web Services Toolkit enables SharePoint site content available over WSRP Web services. It provides examples for creating and deploying WSRP Web services and simplifies the use of SharePoint features and content within third-party portals.

Finally, Microsoft released an SAP-specific Web Part Toolkit that displays SAP NetWeaver iViews in a way that's easy to deploy and configure. Developers using composite applications combining SAP resources with other applications and resources within SharePoint sites and portals.
